WHOIS Lookup
Find a domain's registrar, registration and expiry dates, status, name servers and DNSSEC.
About this tool
WHOIS Lookup shows the public registration data of a domain: registrar, registration date, last change and expiry, status flags (e.g. transfer prohibited), name servers and DNSSEC state. The tool warns about an upcoming expiry or a suspended domain. Useful when transferring a domain, checking a renewal or verifying who manages it.
Glossary
- WHOIS
- Public registration data of a domain: who manages it, when it was registered and when it expires. Owner details are usually hidden because of GDPR.
- RDAP
- The modern successor of the WHOIS protocol. It returns the same data over HTTPS in structured JSON format.
- Registrar
- The company the domain is registered with and where renewals are paid. It differs from the registry that runs the whole extension (e.g. Verisign for .com).
- Domain status
- Flags such as clientTransferProhibited (lock against transfer to another registrar) or serverHold (the domain does not work in DNS).
- DNSSEC
- Digital signatures of DNS records that protect against forged DNS answers. Both the DNS hosting and the registrar must support it.
How to use
- 1Enter a domain or a full URL.
- 2Click Look up WHOIS.
- 3Check the registrar and the expiry date.
- 4Verify the domain status and name servers.
- 5For extensions without RDAP, expand the raw WHOIS server response.
Specifications and limits
The modern RDAP protocol is used first, based on the official IANA list (e.g. .cz, .com, .org, .uk, .pl). For extensions without RDAP (.sk, .de, .eu, .io and others) the registry's classic WHOIS server is queried and the fields are read from the text response automatically - some registries may not provide every field. Registries usually hide the holder's personal data. Subdomains are converted to the registered domain.
