About this tool

This tool shows the public IP address that servers on the internet see when you connect. It also shows the protocol version (IPv4 or IPv6), the reverse DNS record assigned to the address and the headers your browser sends with every request. Useful when configuring a firewall, IP allowlist, VPN or when talking to your provider's support.

Glossary

IPv4
An address made of four numbers 0-255 (e.g. 192.0.2.1). There are only 4.3 billion of them, so devices at home usually share one through NAT.
IPv6
A newer address made of eight groups of hexadecimal digits (e.g. 2001:db8::1). There are practically unlimited addresses, every device can have its own.
Reverse DNS (PTR)
A host name assigned to an IP address. For a home connection it usually reveals the internet provider.
ASN
Autonomous system number - the identifier of the provider network that announces the IP address on the internet (e.g. AS15169 is Google).
Regional registry (ARIN, RIPE)
An organization that allocates IP address blocks in a region: RIPE NCC in Europe, ARIN in North America, plus APNIC, LACNIC and AFRINIC. Their database shows who owns a block.
Blacklist (DNSBL)
A public list of IP addresses that sent spam or attacks. If a mail server's address is on it, other servers reject its e-mails.
VPN and proxy
They route traffic through another server, so websites see its IP address instead of yours. With a VPN on, you will see the VPN server's address here.

How to use

  1. 1Open the page - your IP address loads automatically.
  2. 2Copy the address with the Copy button.
  3. 3Check the IP version and the reverse DNS record.
  4. 4After switching on a VPN or changing networks, click Reload.
  5. 5Compare the browser details with what you expect.

Specifications and limits

The IP address is taken from the request to our server. When using a VPN or proxy you will see the exit server's address. Reverse DNS is queried via the public resolvers 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8. Browser details (time zone, languages, resolution) are read locally in your browser only. Nothing is stored.
